FDA & FSMA Requirements

FSMA defines the role of Preventive Control Qualified Individual and establishes the minimum knowledge, skills and scientific training necessary for the industry to effectively manage the expanded responsibilities outlined in this landmark legislation:

117.180 (c) (1): “to be a preventive controls qualified individual, the individual must have successfully completed training in the development and application of risk-based preventive controls at least equivalent to that received under a standardized curriculum recognized as adequate by the FDA or otherwise qualified through job experience to develop and apply a food safety system. Job experience may qualify an individual to perform these functions if such experience has provided an individual with knowledge at least equivalent to that provided through the standardized curriculum. This individual may be, but is not required to be, an employee of the facility.”

Each FDA registered facility must designate a Preventive Control Qualified Individual (PCQI) who is responsible for the development, oversight and management of the Food Safety Plan who is required to have training and experience that exceeds existing HACCP based systems.

This HARPC Course was developed using the required topics and learning objectives in the standardized curriculum which is offered in a face-to-face or blended online/in-person versions through FSPCA. Our course is the alternative training allowed for in the regulation.

ImEpik and Iron Apple Partner to Deliver PCQI Training and HACCP Warehousing Food Safety Programs to Distribution and Cold Storage.

ImEPIK Food Safety Training ProgramsImEpik is an online training company that facilitates food safety training (PCQI/QI) for food manufacturers and warehousing around the world, and Iron Apple, a leader in Food Safety compliance programs for warehousing and distribution. The services provided by both companies will meet the demands of the FDA regulations and offer companies a turn key solution to manage their food safety employees and plans. PCQI training offered by ImEpik, and Iron Apples eCompliance program will provide warehousing companies the appropriate training and a web-based task orientated food safety plan to manage their food safety program while ensuring the new FDA requirements do not affect overall productivity.

“By teaming up with Iron Apple, we can now offer our customers a warehouse food safety program that has all forms, standard operating procedures, and checklists needed for a HACCP/Preventive Controls Program, pre-developed. The turn key product is delivered in an online platform which is a key technology tool for increasing oversight and consistencies among a multilocation company,” says Laura Lombard, CEO at ImEpik.

Iron Apple’s warehouse food safety program maximizes operational efficiencies by the ability to complete all checklists and documents via the Iron Apple App, which is available for download on the Play Store and Apple Store for IOS. Once information is submitted, it is delivered to the home base portal, which gives management ability to approve documents, get corrective action alerts in real time, and oversee the food safety plan in its entirety. The eCompliance platform is leading the charge to eliminate paper-based food safety plans.

“We are excited about the partnership with ImEpik, we strongly believe that web-based training is the most effective learning environment. Being able to deliver the PCQI course online cuts down on travel expenses and overall disruptions to your operations, “says Geoff Sanford, Operations Manager at Iron Apple.
